Googol The Google Story

When Larry Page and Sergey Brin bought the domain name Google.com exactly 10 years ago today, I am not sure they could even dream the position in which the company that started under the project name BackRub would be today.

I won’t write the history of the company as you will probably find it everywhere, but for those of you who live in a bubble, and not precisely the web 2.0 bubble, here is the story of the name ‘Google’:

The legend tells that they choose Google because it looked like “Googol”. OK, whats a Googol? A Googol is the number 1 followed by 100 zeros.

Aha..so what?

The search engine that they created was designed to get better as the WWW grew and so does the number of links between the pages that conform it.

In the early days the project was under the subdomain google.stanford.edu , but it didn’t took long for the Larry and Sergey to realize that it was time to move to their own domain.

That was how on the morning of the 15th of September of 1997 google.com was registered.

Exactly a year layer the company Google was founded.
